Shoe Crazy

I confess. As someone who promotes the idea of having less stuff, I’m going shoe crazy.

Being shoe-discriminating has always been easy.  I have bad feet.  So finding anything that’s comfortable is a challenge.  BUT…

The Internet has suddenly been overrun with ads for shoes that claim to be stylish, inexpensive and comfortable.  Besides all that, according to the ads, they will keep you from falling.  AND besides that, they pack easily, which in the age of baggage fees, is big.

To make the case, one article listed shoes usually touted as foot-pleasing but which actually caused falling.  I had owned all of them.

A veteran of three foot surgeries and at least as many friends who had fallen in the past week (what were they wearing?) I decided to order a pair in beige. They arrived in a cute little cloth bag.  They felt good.  They fit in my suitcase. I recommended them to friends.

Then I ordered another pair, in baby blue.  Somehow, the company sent two blue pairs, so I traded one in for bright orange. I’m not sure where I’ll wear them – football games? – but I feel like a more fun person already.

I am running out of closet space.  I am running out of tops that match my shoes.  I am running out of bottoms. I can’t stop. I just hope they don’t come out with more colors.

  1. There are shoes that prevent falling?? Bring them on!!
Meanwhile, I’m in pursuit of cute and comfy brown, suede mules. If you see any that also prevent falling, let me know!
